Ungkat Exclusive: Online Pakighimamat 2020

Intramurals and gatherings used to be a thing---until COVID-19 happened.

Canceled plans, strict health protocols, and the emergence of the "new normal"; it seems like we are stuck in this myriad of unfortunate events and unforeseen circumstances brought by the pandemic.

Driven to take on new ways to ignite the Cebu Normal University (CNU) Intramurals spirit, Ungkat Publication held its first "Online Pakighimamat" event via Google Meet on Saturday.

The organized gathering aimed to reminisce about the experience and discern the collective regard of selected student-athletes towards the annual intramurals celebration.

Ungkat gave the four participating student-athletes four questions to ponder on, letting them freely share their stories to the staff and live viewers.

Captain of College of Teacher Education's (CTE) men volleyball team, Ed Montalbo (BPEd III), shared how his team's commitment to "discipline" to food intake and team performance was instrumental in getting them their championship. He added that their teamwork was unfazed even without the guidance of a professional coach and budget restrictions as they were working towards the same goal.

Admitting that he was not in his best shape during last year's Intramurals, one of Medellin Campus' Karatedo player, Christian Matthew Torralba (BSEd-ENG), answered "Muling Ibalik" when asked about what his hashtag for the event would be. He told Ungkat that he was adamant in making up for his previous performance and return to display his full capacity.

Julia Muyco (BA Psychology II), another Karatedo player from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), mentioned the frantic moment when one of the players bled during the sports event. She added that the essence of "teamwork" was shown by the participating teams, which made the event more enjoyable and unforgettable.

Placing second in the Latin category, dancesporter Hershy Yabao (BPEd II) recalled her self doubts about her skills during the competition but was relieved to be able to bring glory to her team. She commented that the CNU Intramurals held an "unparalleled" charm to it: one that ignited every Normalites' spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Amidst the pandemic, the "Online Pakighimamat" was delivered in a span of 58 minutes and was streamed live on the publication's Facebook page.
