Typhoon Quinta wreaks havoc in Southern Luzon

Typhoon Quinta's (international name: Molave) heavy rain and gusty winds lashed areas of Southern Luzon causing floods, landslides, toppled power lines, and left 12 fishermen missing on Monday.

No immediate casualties were reported; however, there were 12 fishermen at sea who failed to return to Catanduanes province.

"They have been missing for 24 hours. They are supposed to come back home yesterday before noon," Gremil Alexis Naz of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said.

With wind speeds of 125 kilometer (77 miles) per hour, Typhoon Quinta left the areas of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Puerto Galera, and Camarines Sur with rough seas, house wreckage, and strong blows of wind.

As of 4 PM today, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that Typhoon Quinta was already at a distance of 310 kilometers west of Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro and is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Tuesday morning.

Despite Typhoon Quinta moving away from the landmass, the typhoon may still bring moderate to heavy rains in Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, northern Palawan, including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, Calabarzon, Aurora, and Isabela.

The provinces of Cagayan, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur will also experience moderate to heavy rains, this time due to a frontal system up north.
