Kapamilya broadcaster Karen Davila lambasted a Plantation Bay shareholder for responding negatively to a review by a parent whose child has autism that recently went viral online.
In her Twitter account, the veteran broadcaster shared the screenshot of a parent review and called out Plantation Bay Resort and Spa shareholder Manny Gonzalez.
“Shame on you Manny Gonzales of Plantation Bay for trying to school a parent of a child with autism on what the symptoms are. You are a disgrace to the tourism industry. Your words & heartlessness do not belong in the world today that seeks to include all persons with needs,” said Davila, who is also a mother to a son with autism.
In a now-deleted comment, resort shareholder Manny Gonzalez replied to the mother and accused her of "most likely deliberately lying" since "uncontrolled shouting is not a symptom of autism." He went as far as questioning the child's diagnosis.
Moreover, he even told the public to "Google autism" and verify the facts themselves.
"Therefore this parent is most likely deliberately lying or has been given an incorrect diagnosis of autism, when what the child more likely has is a lack of discipline due to simple parental neglect," a portion of his comment read.
Davila pointed out it was wrong for Gonzalez to "school a parent of a child with autism".
"Napakasama na insultuhin pa ng ganoon ang magulang gayung hindi naman siya duktor o eksperto sa autism," she said.
In a statement posted on its website, Autism Society Philippines urged Plantation Bay to acknowledge "the need for rights-based disability sensitivity training and a review of its policies and processes against the Magna Carta of Persons with Disabilities."
