United States (US) President Donald Trump's Twitter account will be stripped off of its special protections after President-elect Joe Biden takes office on January 20, 2021, the social media giant verified this week.
As a policy from Twitter, it removes any tweets from "world leaders" that are considered to be rule-breaking by placing "public interest" notices.
Such tweets from political candidates or elected government officials will be hidden through a warning as Twitter takes action to restrict their tweets.
"This policy framework applies to current world leaders and candidates for office, and not private citizens when they no longer hold the position," a Twitter spokesman said in a statement.
Twitter has been adding multiple warnings and labels on President Trump's @realDonaldTrump account since Tuesday's election for making unfounded allegations of voting fraud.
According to the company, it first hid a tweet from President Trump in May when he violated Twitter's policy against glorifying violence.
