Mañanita celebrant Debold Sinas is new PNP Chief

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte formally appointed the controversial National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Major General Debold Sinas as the new head of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The news was confirmed by presidential spokesperson Harry Roque during a press briefing on Monday.

"Itinalaga po ni Presidente Rodrigo Roa Duterte si Debold Menorias Sinas bilang bagong [PNP] chief, effective po bukas, November 10, 2020,," Roque said to the reporters.

This was broadcasted after Police General Camilo Cascolan, current PNP Chief, said that it is not still confirmed if Sinas would replace him in the position.

Earlier this year, Sinas was faced with controversies after he celebrated his birthday with many people in the middle of lockdown due to COVID-19 where social gatherings were supposed to be prohibited.

After he was bashed by the netizens for violating the rules and health protocols, President Duterte defended him saying, "He is a good officer, he's an honest one, and hindi niya kasalanan kung may magharana sa kanya sa birthday niya."

Despite the numerous controversies, Sinas will be given six months to prove his worth of being the newly-appointed PNP Chief.
