Kris Aquino defended Kapamilya actress Angel Locsin after she was subjected as an "obese" person from an educational module in Occidental Mindoro.
Last week, the photo of the module was leaked out, using the actress as an example in physical education portraying her as "obese" with her supposed activities which are eating "fatty food" and "watching television at home."
“Sir/ma’am -- kung mamemersonal po, open naman ang comments ni Angel sa IG and Twitter niya. Kahit hindi po kagandahan ang opinion sa kanya, at least sa mas na angkop na 'forum' in-express," Aquino said.
Aquino stated that living in a democratic country, we have the right to uphold free speech and teachers have the same rights as well. In this situation, the person with the authority playing a significant role was the teacher, aiding in shaping the values and characters of his/her students.
“I understand mahirap ang trabaho ng mga guro at kadalasan hindi sapat ang sweldo. Pero ang budget ng DepEd ay galing sa mga Pilipino, mga nagtatrabaho at nagbabayad ng buwis ang nagbibigay pondo para sa DepEd. In other words, lahat tayo stakeholders dito kaya mali kung ang likas na matulungin sa kapwa ang 'paglalaruan' in the guise of 'pagtuturo',” Aquino said.
Aquino was referring to Locsin's good deeds which she displayed in the recent months, efforts in the pandemic, and the aftermath of the typhoons that recently hit the country.
She added that Locsin was within her rights to fight for her dignity amidst the issue and wants to spare the actress from the 'attacks'.
Even though Locsin remained silent when comments popped out about her body, she reacted to the issue not because of her weight but to what it teaches the students.
Regarding this, the Department of Education (DepEd) office in Occidental Mindoro has issued an apology, saying that the content of the module did not go through the quality assurance procedure of its central office.
