Iloilo City pride Rabiya Mateo secured the "Filipina" crown of Miss Universe Philippines (MUP) 2020 held at Baguio Country Club on Sunday, October 25, making her the first titleholder of the competition.
Rabiya Mateo successfully amazed the judges with her undeniable beauty and intelligence, beating the other 47 candidates in the pageant.
Out of the 48 total representatives, they were cut to the Top 16 and advanced to the next challenge, testing their ability to speak their sentiments on a certain topic.
Furthermore, the candidates' charisma and sophistication were also tested during the Swimsuit and Evening Gown Competition as the basis for the Top 5 finalists.
Together with Miss Iloilo City, representatives of Quezon City, Cavite, Bohol, and Parañaque managed to make it into the last and anticipated round; the question and answer portion.
The Top 5 candidates effortlessly gave their convicted answers, making Miss Iloilo City the newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2020. Miss Parañaque won 1st runner-up, Miss Quezon City secured her place as 2nd runner-up, while Miss Bohol and Miss Cavite were awarded as the 3rd and 4th runner-up, respectively.
Aside from winning the crown of MUP 2020, Rabiya Mateo was awarded a brand-new MG car, an exclusive management contract, brand endorsement deals, and cash.
Rabiya Mateo will represent the Philippines in Miss Universe 2020.
After decades of being part of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc., MUP had recently renewed its franchise as an independent organization making Rabiya Mateo the first-ever winner of the competition.
