In the new educational system adopted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Cebu Normal University (CNU) officially inaugurated the online student portal last November 16, 2020, which allows students to view their grades virtually.
CNU is one of the numerous academic institutions that is affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, transitioning to a new normal of education — online class and modular.
Amidst the pandemic, CNU innovatively initiated an alternative way for undergraduate and graduate students in accessing their academic records through an online-based website.
According to Omar Roma, CNU Data Protection Officer, the university already conceptualized the online student portal before the pandemic which became fully functional last September, but still sought the approval of the University Administrative Council to make it online.
Roma also added that the CNU student portal was designed similarly to the student kiosk, an electronic machine with the same function which can only be accessed in the Teacher Arts Centrum (TAC) building in the university.
The students are required to evaluate the faculty assigned to their respective subjects before they can view their grades online.
In an interview by Ungkat, Jomarey Arias (Bachelor of Early Childhood Education II) shared his experience with the university's newly launched portal.
“The CNU student portal is really accessible for me. It shows and contains the data and information that [a] student like me is looking for. Overall it is very helpful especially in this time of pandemic,” he said.
However, Arias had also encountered an inevitable system error upon accessing the portal.
“Sometimes there are issues happening with it such as glitches and not accessible sometimes,” he added.
Graduate and undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in the academic year 2020-2021 are authorized to sign in to the CNU student portal that can be accessed through the university’s website, cnu.edu.ph, found in the Registrar tab using any electronic device— mobile phone, computer, laptop, etc.
